Shawn Chrystopher

There is something raw about Shawn Chrystopher’s voice and cadence. He’s been a bit slow on the uptake, but recently put out an EP titled “The Audition.” Check that out here: What I wanted to post though is a song from his earlier EP “A City With No Seasons” that just touches me deeply every time I listen to it. Look out for Shawn and potentially big things from him. XXL freshmen 2011? Hmmm.

Here is the song:

Who’s Got The Love for Theo?

And because I’m feeling generous, as I’m slowly turning into an insomniac, I think y’all need to check out Theophilus London. The guy has mad talent, and is long overdue on another mixtape if not an album (apparently, something is in the works for october). Check out his remix to one of my fave bands Florence and The Machine right here:

Tuney Tuesdays: October’s Very Cold

Remember Coldplay? Somewhere out there Chris Martin is working on a new album, and happily touching Gwyneth Paltro. As he deservingly should be (because no one else will). Chi Duly in the meanwhile, took the best Martin’s former band had to offer, and set it against the musings of a much more recent superstar. I will warn you right away, I wasn’t a huge fan of this mixtape, but such are the powers of music, that it appeals to different people. So without me ruining it for everyone, here it is:

Download: October’s Very Cold (Full Album)

Childish Gambino – Culdesac

Who is Donald Glover? I don’t know, but apparently the guy’s been on 30 Rock, and is now on Community, and does stand up comedy. And those are just his serious aspirations. Rapping apparently isn’t one of them. Which makes the music he puts out “for fun” much more unique. Already compared to Lil Wayne (he does sound like him) and Kid Cudi (some similarities in lyrical content), Childish Gambino assembles a pretty neat record.

Glover’s most interesting work shines through on his I AM JUST A RAPPER mixtapes. Dude manages to rap over Depeche Mode, Grizzly Bear, Discovery, Sleigh Bells, Animal Collective, Vampire weekend, and Neon Indian. Holy lists!

Et puis seulement quand c’est fini, alors on danse.

If you haven’t heard about G.O.O.D. Fridays from Kanye West, you probably don’t go on hypem (sorry to advertise), but the man promised to release a new song every week until his album drops. So far the effort has been pretty decent. What I’m curious to see is, how many of these song will end up being on the actual record. But to avoid talking about him, as he has successfully managed to do about himself once again (Look no further than the cover of this month’s XXL), I want to bring your attention to just one song:  Alors on Danse.

Comment on what you think:

MixTape Wednesdays: 500 Days of Weezy

Latest tracks by mysickuncle

So while you hipster kids were wearing your “Free Weezy” tees around town for the last year and all you other hipster kids were secretly fantasizing about Zoey Deschanel, some kind soul gave you a reason to put on your wayfarers, take the plaid off the hanger and throw some steaks on the grill to a 24 of cold Pabst. Please welcome “500 Days of Weezy” This album is as melodic as some of the best collaborators on the soundtrack (Feist, The Smiths, Wolfmother, Simon and Garfunkel) as it is equally enticingly gritty with Wayne’s lyrics with numerous appearances by his collaborators (great take on Kanye’s Barry Bonds). Look for dialogue clips from the film, and bits of interview with Weezy. Enjoy on a humid Friday night. Oh, and go talk to that girl on the couch dude, she’s been eyeing you all night.
More on me later.
